MediaWiki currently includes 1.8.24, which uses the deprecated $.browser. It might be a good idea to update in two steps, i.e. use 1.9.x first, as there seem to be breaking API changes. Additionally 1.10.x drops support for IE6, but this shouldn't be a problem, WikiEditor blacklists it already.
