Description troygabriella 2013-09-04 15:07:31 UTC
I have not been able to log in to my account "TroyGab" for a while. Even though I enter the correct password, the page always returns "Incorrect password". I tried resetting the password through email several times, but right after I logged in with the email code and set my new password it returns to Special:UserLogin with the message "Incorrect password".

Hi,
which browser is this about? Does this also happen with a different browser? On which website do you try to log in?

Chrome 30 and IE 10.
Wikimedia Commons, Wikinews and Wikipedia.

The only idea I have is to remove the Wikimedia related cookies in your browser and try again (if this is still a problem).
Comment 4 Andre Klapper 2013-10-14 16:16:23 UTC
Did you try removing all Wikimedia related cookies and trying again?

Yes, I tried, but it didn't work. Also, I have tried to log in on mutiple computers at various locations, but all failed.

I'm really not sure what to do here, especially as I'm not aware of other users having the same problems... :-/
Comment 7 Seb35 2013-11-18 22:40:58 UTC
I am in contact with another user who seems to have a similar problem, I investigate more with him to see if it is the same thing.

Perhaps a way to help following the exact actions would be to write here the exact messages displayed, and following it in the MediaWiki code. I have no better idea.

I've exactly the same problem Since yesterday & open a new bug (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57791) on this issue.

This is because your global account <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/TroyGab> is locked.

See this <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?page=User:TroyGab@global>

You should create a temporary account on Meta-Wiki and either ask Billinghurst <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Billinghurst> or steward request <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/SRG> to be unlocked.
Comment 10 PiRSquared17 2013-12-02 15:11:06 UTC
See <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Lock> for details. There might be a bug about having the log-in message say something other than "wrong password"(it would be filed under Extensions/CentralAuth)

Tell them what I said in comment 9 and comment 10. They can easily ask to be unlocked on [[m:SRG]].

I'm going to resolve this as a duplicate of the newly-created bug 57866, which specifically calls out the poor error message when an account is globally locked.

Account is now unlocked. It will presumably have been caught from a spambot range block and check. No way to tell now exactly the circumstances due to the age of the lock and the clearing of data. Apologies for being the collateral damage.
Comment 14 troygabriella 2013-12-03 12:37:04 UTC
I can now access my account. Thanks!
