Description hagurganus 2013-08-11 19:39:34 UTC
When typing an edit summary in the Edit Summary window, I was unable to backspace. It seemed to let me highlight and _replace_ text, but even then, I could not highlight and hit the backspace key to _remove_ the text, I had to highlight and hit spacebar to simply enter a space, etc.

It could be that this is intentional, but I highly doubt this.

I've been encountering this for a while and just worked out how to reproduce this:

1. Edit a page in VE
2. Enter an edit summary (doesn't matter what) but don't save
3. Review your changes.
4. Return to editing the page without saving (e.g. using the ^ button). It doesn't matter if you make any more changes or not.
5. Click save page again

Expected behaviour
* The edit summary input box works like a normal text entry field

Actual behaviour
* The delete, backspace and cursor keys do not work.
* Text can only be selected using the mouse
* Selected text can be removed by overwriting, by "delete" or "cut" from the RMB menu, or by using the ctrl+x shortcut to cut.

This bug was originally reported on Safari/MacOS X, I encountered it using Firefox 23/Linux

I think this is likely to be bug 50722?
Comment 3 James Forrester 2013-08-30 03:33:04 UTC
I believe that this is the same as bug 50722, yes.
