Description lɛʁi לערי ריינהארט 2006-01-19 23:47:41 UTC
Hallo!

I was traying to replicate the bug mentioned at
Bug 4439: Centering images using [[image:foo|center]] breaks some table layouts
in internet explorer

The url there is a permanent link:
http://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=184205

Because this page changes permanently trough templates and some of the templates
changed since the time the bug / report was made it is very painfull to
replicate the problem.

*consequences*
a) There should be no "cite" links at such pages. There should be a way to
suppress the "cite" link. A solution would be to porvide a "__NOCITE__" magic word.
b) I beleive that REDIRECTS should not have "cite" links.

The problem about not being able to view "historical content" is known since
Bug 851: when viewing an old version of a page, use old version of templates
If this is missing at "cite" or in the "disclaimers" just find an appropriate text.

For visitors of the page another solution should be found. An indication to
print / save the page or to store it as a PDF file (bug 474).

For documentation and fault finding it would be usefull to implement
Bug 2777 – "request for a {{substall:foo}} beside {{subst:bar}}"

If one can use export for the same purpose just post the required steps or email
me. These exports could be used as attachments to the bugs.

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with redirects. Can you clarify the
summary please?

redirects and cite is indeed another issue. Opened
Bug 4911: Disable the "cite" link on redirect pages

What's the benefit in hiding a link that helps people cite old revisions of a page?
Comment 4 Purodha Blissenbach 2011-05-19 16:35:04 UTC
Obviously as pointed out above, we cannot show old pages with transclusions
correctly in the way they have been before. These pages should therefore not
be cited, since we cannot guarantee that we serve them again unaltered.

The same holds for the label "permalink" which is deceptive but not valid
for pages with transclusions.
