It's like the Konami code of the Visual Editor. :) I'll take a look at this. We're specifically using a pawn for a certain trick that we need to do so that if it ever appears, we know where the problem is.
Confirming bug. It also occurs in this simplified sequence: (1) Click anywhere on the text (2) Enter, enter, up (Note: Christian, Konami code is an easter egg, not a bug. It doesn't occur with normal operations. I agree the sequence enter enter up backspace enter down appears to be a little like a up up down down left right left right b a (enter) but ... the sequence Nicolas use is a legit one to edit text.)
All pawn problems have been resolved and pushed to mediawiki.org.
I (original reporter) confirm the fix.
I think that this happens again, but only on Firefox. Here's another simple test: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/VisualEditor:Pawn Edit this page in VE and start moving with the arrow keys forward (right). A pawn appears in the beginning and the end of every list item.
*** Bug 47687 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
This seems to be fixed already in master and on mediawiki.org.
Marking back as fixed as of October. If you have new bugs, please create new reports rather than re-open ones tangentially-related.
