It would be great if the special properties defined by SMW were documented by default (using a system message?). For example 'Has type', this property has a very well defined meaning and usage on all SMW installs, so it should be documented by default (at least with a link to the appropriate page on smw.org).

(Bug 23692 is not a duplicate, since it refers to SF) The problem that I have is that clicking a non-existing page always gets you into the edit mode in MediaWiki. In this situation, there is no place to have the default text. One would rather want special property pages to behave like message pages that have a default that is shown even if the page is not created yet. But I do not see how this behaviour could be achieved in MediaWiki. Input is welcome.
Can you not generate the page content directly when SMW is installed? (Assuming there is no data their already). Another suggestion... 11:53 < Alphos> i don't believe there's a way to do it for a specific non-existing page 11:54 < Alphos> except perhaps some js ? 11:55 < Alphos> if ((wgPageName === "specificpage") && (wgArticleId == 0)) { /*display something*/ }
To have this struck my mind several times, too. A workaround would be to provide an xml-file on smw.o available for import on wikis interested in it. However an out-of-the-box solution would be great.
[1] enables default documentation for predefined properties and MW 1.20+ allows those pages to be displayed as blue link (known page). [1] https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/67609/
