While writing in urdu we use ٭ for making lists but this does not works. while using ٭ lists are not generated
Hallo! I assume this is a RTL / BiDi duplicate. See http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=745 probably bug 2020: both list indentations with # and * fail in LTR block on RTL wiki with MonoBook skin regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]
Created attachment 1072 [details] screen dump Hallo! To understand this *political* request please read at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Asterisk&oldid=28275328 about U+066D. This is not just about other types of asterisks you may find at http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/search.htm?q=asterisk It is about the Unicode Character ARABIC FIVE POINTED STAR - U 066D http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/066D/index.htm (which might look differently depending on the font) HTML Entity (decimal) ٭ HTML Entity (hex) ٭ How to type in Microsoft Windows Alt +066D UTF-8 (hex) 0xD9 0xAD (d9ad) It belongs to the Unicode Characters in the Arabic Block http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/block/arabic/images.htm together with the digits 0 - 9 http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0660/index.htm http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/0669/index.htm The best solution would be to offer allow to define the character to be used for list identations in a MediaWiki message same as done in bug 3798: The arrow in [[Special:DoubleRedirects]] cannot be changed and proposed as solution for bug 3922: enhancement: adjust BiDi mess in category list regards reinhardt [[user:gangleri]]
removed dependency "blocks bug 745" as this not the case / this no BiDi or RTL issue
There are other usages of "*" in MediaWiki software. One is mentioned in bug 4021: Search only searched for complete words by default, not for subpatterns bug 4021 comment 1 > but try wildcarding: phra* test* If there are keybords which do *not* contain the "*" character how "٭" (U+0669) should be used as an equivalent? - in all wiki's? people having the "keyboard problem" might want to search wiki's as [[en:]], [[fr:]] etc. - only as a local setting for a wiki? - ???
Probably not going to be done with this amount of support.
