Wikimedia Bugzilla is closed!

I think it would be great to have the Parser extended to allow for 'substring' functions.

Something like:

{{#substring: abcdefg | 0 | 0}} would produce: a
{{#substring: abcdefg | 1 | 1}} would produce: b
{{#substring: abcdefg | 0 | 1}} would produce: ab
{{#substring: abcdefg | 2 | 4}} would produce: bcd

or to that general effect.

I don't think any functionality like this currently exists, but please correct me if I am wrong. :)
