I think the search engine should ignore accents like the google search engine. For example a search for "λαμπετη" should return "λαμπέτη" This would be very useful in my opinion for many languages and when you're not sure where or which accent to use. This suggestion is a bit related to the proposition in bug ID 7002 which proposes a code for letters not contained in the standard ASCII set. My opinion would be to keep things simple.
Bug 7002 proposes exactly the same thing, normalizing accented characters so they're treated the same as unaccented (or as some appropriate equivalent, like oe for ö). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 7002 ***
