I propose that when a new account is created by e-mail, that this e-mail address
for the new account is automatically flagged as "mail address was authenticated
on ...<date>" when the user uses that link within the life time of the
authentication token.

Something like that (for login with mailed password, unsure if it's the same as
what you request) was added by brion in r18319.
