Control-h may conventionally be used for backspace+erase (because delete may be chosen as the kill character in some contexts.) In my experience, wikipedia is unique in not following that conventional use of control-h in the web browser context; I can think of no other web browser context in which control-h and delete are not synonyms. Example: An attempt to use control-h to backspace+erase a typo in a wikipedia search term results in an abrupt jump to that page's History page -- Ouch! Because other computer contexts used for research alongside wikipedia follow the convention, because control-h is closer to "home" position touch-typing, and because it's usually "safer" than delete (since it's not mapped to kill), it's hard to unlearn the convention, and therefore easy to be tripped up by wikipedia's not following it. (Counter example: the form I'm now using follows the control-h convention.)
