I believe there should be a user ranking system for wiki content, wherein once the voting reaches a particular threshold, the content can be locked forever or future edits will be limited to original author/someone of repute or such edits done on that page will be reviewed and submitted. WOn't this stop vandalism to an extent? One should be able to rank the author too.
All such ranking systems have difficulties to explain to the user what exactly is to be ranked and to weight the responses. One user might give an article a good note for being written in a witty style, the next user might give the same article a bad rating for poor spelling of some words, user three gives 10 out of 10 points for the nice pictures, and the fourth gives no points at all because he was searching for something different and this article didn't help him at all. And two months later that article got edited a dozen times, looks very different, and the ratings still belong to the old version.
Marking the original request as WONTFIX. While FlaggedRevs can be used (sort of) like what is originally being suggested, the actual premise of "once people have voted enough, it becomes immutable" goes against the "anyone can edit" principle. Of course a 3rd party extension could implement this, but you'd be hard pressed to get a WMF community to approve it.

I get to see the rating system now and then in wikipedia. Not sure why this is not a permanent feature.
