Description Philip Ganchev 2006-08-13 08:27:28 UTC
There is an offer on the
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Uploading_images#TGS_images|Uploading_images
talk page] :

"We have a tool at: DragAndDropUpload.com which is a Java application for doing
uploads. It can do things like image previews. Also it can dynamicly convert
image formats, so GIFs and TIFFs get converted to PNGs, and JPEGs get scaled
properly (if necessary). We would be happy to donate it for Wiki and help
customize it, if Wiki would be interested. —The preceding unsigned comment was
added by 69.3.115.86 (talk • contribs) 23:07, 8 February 2006(UTC)."
Comment 1 JeLuF 2006-08-13 08:49:18 UTC
At DragAndDropUpload.com, I only get a product presentation for ChargeMyMobile.
Comment 2 Brion Vibber 2006-08-13 17:38:02 UTC
Note that a number of upload tools exist.
Comment 3 Philip Ganchev 2006-08-14 21:13:19 UTC
Where can I find those tools to compare them? Is there a discussion about the
merits and drawbacks of better integrating them with the wiki or the browser?
Comment 4 Daniel Kinzler 2006-08-14 21:20:24 UTC
Several are listed here:
<http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Tools#Upload_media>. There have been
several discussions, I guess - maybe search the archives at
<http://mail.wikimedia.org>. Also compare bug 488.

For integration with MediaWiki, I would suggest writing an extension the creates
a special page with a java applet on it. I'm not sure if it would be activated
on Wikimedia sites - that's also a question of policy. Is Java deemed "really
feee"? Also, do we want to allow people to upload a hundet files at once? etc.
Comment 5 Philip Ganchev 2006-08-15 02:02:04 UTC
OK, please accept my apologies. It seems this "offer" was just clever spam.
All the email addresses of the company bounce. Thanks for the links, there are
some intereseing tools. I guess this bug can be closed?
Comment 6 Aryeh Gregor (not reading bugmail, please e-mail directly) 2006-08-15 02:05:45 UTC
We usually don't bother with CLOSED, VERIFIED, or UNCONFIRMED here. Our
development cycle has slightly fewer steps than Mozilla's (frequently one). :)
