Hi, I am admin at Lombard wikipedia. I would like two 'portal' namespaces to be activated there: an English-like 'Portal' namespace and a new one called 'Purtaal'. The subpage functionality should be activated as well, please: see this Lombard portal http://lmo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purtaal:Catalunya and the analogous Catalan one http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Catalunya, using the same codes, but producing different effects. What's the purpose of two?
Hello, 'portal' fits with Eastern Lombard group, whereas 'purtaal' fits with Western Lombard. Of course we don't want to duplicate this wikipedia. Rather, we would like to do some 'façade' work in such a way that most people could feel at home. To see an example, please take a look at our main page: http://lmo.wikipedia.org. It is made in such a way that, by default, the eastern version is shown on even days, the western one otherwise. Nevertheless, by using bookmarks, everybody is able to see his/her preferred version always shown when opening Lombard wikipedia. Another related issue are categories: we plan to leave this namespace in English, and to make reciprocal inclusions between eastern and western categories, when needed. Please, take a look at these categories: Category:Pröva U and Category:Pröva O . It seems to work. Summarising, this is the only case we ask for duplicating a namespace, because portals are effective: they give people occasion to work (or to be told to work) about issues they feel important, and they could do this feeling their dialect to be considered: so many unuseful discussion could be avoided. This is the only concession to be done with regards to dialect-fragmentation of Lombard tongue, with the aim in mind to start a brought-back process: but this needs people to work.
