Description Steinsplitter 2014-07-25 17:39:20 UTC
Create some magic word/function to enable the section [edit] link.

This is needed if editable subpages are included in a TA-Page.
Comment 1 Nemo 2014-07-27 12:58:58 UTC
I already told you, this is not going to happen. Edit section links were disabled on translation pages on purpose.

19.02 < Nemo_bis> You should do the opposite IMHO
19.03 < Nemo_bis> Transclude the translated page, like a template, on the editable page
19.07 < Nemo_bis> Steinsplitter: what's not possible? move COM:UR to COM:UR/Header, remove the transclusion from it, create UR again,
                  transclude /Header and the rest
Comment 2 Steinsplitter 2014-07-27 16:57:23 UTC
No. This breaks too much. This was requested multiple times onwiki.

Links?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Forum/Archiv/2014/May#"Übersetzungswerkzeug" deaktivieren und Seite normal bearbeiten?!
Comment 5 Nemo 2014-07-27 18:41:27 UTC
I don't see anyone there who complains about not being able to edit the transcluded page: of course I only used machine translation, but Rillke's summary is at bug 65723 and is clearly about a different issue.

The editsection links on translation pages are useless because the page can't be edited directly; and there isn't any way in MediaWiki core to have part of a page parsed in a way and another part in another. Resolving this feature request is plainly impossible.

Moreover, there is an extremely simple workaround explained above: instead of transcluding B in A and making A translatable, transclude both A and B in a third page C.
Comment 6 Steinsplitter 2014-07-27 18:52:07 UTC
We can't chaneg policy pages because of this. Ples stop editwarring here, it is contra productive.
Comment 7 Siebrand Mazeland 2014-07-27 18:55:13 UTC
Thank you for re-iterating your point of view, Steinsplitter, but this feature request will not be implemented.

This feature request has been denied. Please do not re-open it.
Comment 8 Steinsplitter 2014-07-27 18:58:43 UTC
Mabye it is a misunderstanding. The communety has requested to make such a *feature* - it is _NOT_ my POV. Not sure why it schould be possible to make [edit] link for transclusions. Mabye somone like to provide a patch.
Comment 9 Andre Klapper 2014-07-27 19:18:48 UTC
[Plus for the records and for future reference, Bugzilla allows adding comments without the need to change a bug report's status.]
Comment 10 Rainer Rillke @commons.wikimedia 2014-07-27 20:00:54 UTC
I am not sure why you want to edit something, Steinsplitter. For communication, please use Facebook, or just tweet what comes into your mind, or better write a blog post and share links on Google+ There are quite useful apps for your iPhone or your Windows phone! You can easily share your thoughts from everywhere that way! And they are a lot more appealing than editing MediaWiki created pages.

----

Seriously, why do you still care. Change your strategy: If someone WONTFIXEs or your bugs aren't addressed in time, just don't care for the improvement on-wiki, if the alternative appears too difficult to you. Take photos, sell them and get rich, instead.

----

About this specific issue (COM:UR): We'll want to switch to one-page-for-one-request anyway so there will be a lot to work on...

----

About the editsection-thing: That could be a little confusing: A translate tab and edit sections linking to different pages... though not as much confusing as the completely different translation UX when pressing the translate tab the first time.

----

Nemo_bis: You say impossible. I don't know how the parser works but wouldn't it be possible to just remove those edit links that link to the current page?

No, it's not possible.

Public service announcement: Folks, I'd appreciate if it was avoided to add comments which could be interpreted as sarcasm. Also see [[mw:Bug_management/Bugzilla_Etiquette]] for some hints. Thank you.

I'm reminded of bug 42239.
