Description Nemo 2014-04-23 20:43:59 UTC
I love data items etc., but the link feels out of place after "Page information" and before "Cite this page" (completely different audiences).

Data is definitely a subset of information, so the info action seems a suitable home for the link: a natural fit is the area with the list of transcluded templates, which are another source of content for the page.

This would simultaneously fix bug 61768, as the info action is reachable from action=edit. I'm tempted to mark that one as duplicate.

I am opposed to hiding this link. Sorry. People specifically requested it to be prominently accessible there.

Link? Rationale?
Comment 3 Lydia Pintscher 2014-04-23 20:59:25 UTC
Easy access to links and relevant data for the article which will become even more important as Wikidata integration progresses.

I agree: as important as templates, so it needs to be in an obvious, relevant place. That's why I proposed the two to stay together. If I know what the rationale was, it will be easier to propose an alternative.

Lacking a specific rationale for the toolbox I'm reopening this bug, but with a more generic summary.
Comment 5 Lydia Pintscher 2014-04-24 07:43:55 UTC
Again the rational is easy access to relevant information for the article. Moving it to another page like action info will hide it from a huge amount of users.
Comment 6 Nemo 2014-04-24 07:48:05 UTC
That's the old proposal. The current summary doesn't say "another page", so you closed another bug. :)
Comment 7 Andre Klapper 2014-04-24 08:54:02 UTC
In the end it's the Product Manager deciding, so in case that Lydia also considers the "new" proposal a WONTFIX, that's the last word. :)

Couldn't you add a section to info action and leave the sidebar link alone for now? I agree with you that the sidebar section growth is untenable and will eventually need to be addressed (bug 43170), but perhaps it makes sense to first add the section to the info action before trying to kill the sidebar link?

I'm also a bit confused as to what's being requested here specifically. I thought we already included some kind of Wikidata property in the basic information section of the info action? Any clarification would be helpful. :-)
Comment 9 Lydia Pintscher 2014-04-25 13:10:23 UTC
It is already there as can be seen at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Berlin&action=info for example.

I can't ok the removal of the link in the toolbox unless you can propose an alternative that is:
1) better
2) at least as visible and findable
3) worth the cost of moving it away from a place where editors have come to expect it

Do you have a proposal for such a place?
Comment 10 Lydia Pintscher 2014-08-27 17:38:22 UTC
Closing for lack of proposal now.
