SUBPAGENAME and BASEPAGENAME don't appear to work when the basepagename has
spaces in it.

Wait, it also doesn't appear to work when the subpage has spaces in it (
http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test/subpage_with_spaces )... or even when
there's no spaces at all ( http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Test/subpage )...

Am I doing something seriously wrong or is this not currently working?

The main namespace doesn't have subpages enabled. So those magic words print
full strings.

I actually want to use it for the template namespace in Commons. Does this have
it enabled? How can I figure out which namespaces are enabled?

Also Wikibooks uses subpages heavily in the main namespace - see eg.
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/German/Contents .
