I've no idea what you're saying here. I tried to keep this compact to avoid
everyone having to handle multiple requests, and possibly multiple changes. Are
you saying you don't believe I mean what I write, and hence want me to enter
seven requests, for seven namespace - discussion combinations?

- Yes, I mean it: The name Wiktionary is such a bad match in Frisian, among
other languages, that the name is not only meaningless in Frisian, but can not
even be converted (like Wikipedy or WikiBoeken). I feel the name of the project
namespace really ought to be WikiWurdboek:, and the first contributors simply
assumed it to be so.

- Yes, I mean it: All discussion namespaces ought to have single word names,
rather than two wurd, as Frisian doesn't allow for the current solution. It's a
too literal translation I did on the initial translation for fy.wikipedia, when
I didn't yet know these were going to be visible. On the Wikipedia people
already complained to me about it, and ideally this should be corrected on all
three Frisian wikis; I don't know whether this would create link trouble on the
Wikipedia, though. Normally "oerlis" would be concatenated in Frisian, but for
clarity hyphenation is allowed.

- Yes, I mean it: The Help namespaces really ought to be named "Help" and
"Help-oerlis". The Frisian word for "Help" is "Help". The Dutch word "Hulp" used
here has as much meaning in Frisian as the wurd "Fghgh" does. I think this error
crept in when on Wikipedia the Category namespace was translated. I have no idea
what caused it, and it should ideally be changed on all three wikis. Changing
this on the Wikipedia is no problem, as we still use the Wikipedy namespace for
help pages there. This one is really irritating as you can't even create
pseudo-namespace pages in Frisian, since the wiki will consider them English and
then "translate" them to "Hulp:".

- Yes, I mean it: On the Wiktionary the Category namespaces ought to be Rubryk
and Rubryk-oerlis. "Kategory" in Frisian implies a page will appear in one
category only. This is mostly correct for Wikipedia and probably for Wikibooks
as well, but usage on Wiktionary is different the name should reflect this to
avoid confusion.
Comment 3 aliter 2006-06-24 19:11:56 UTC
I've now also received a complaint about Hulp: on Wikipedia.
Comment 4 aliter 2006-09-05 00:16:40 UTC
Could you put this one on hold for a few weeks. We might want to take the
opportunity given, to change the project name to Wikiwurdboek (one capital) instead.
Comment 5 aliter 2006-09-19 22:43:40 UTC
Indeed, to match Wikiboarne and Wikiboeken, this project now uses the name
Wikiwurdboek with one capital.
That means the request is now for:

  3 Meidogger-oerlis
  4 Wikiwurdboek
  5 Wikiwurdboek-oerlis
  7 Ofbyld-oerlis
  9 MediaWiki-oerlis
 11 Berjocht-oerlis
 12 Help
 13 Help-oerlis
 14 Rubryk
 15 Rubryk-oerlis

The setting for the project name variable should probably be changed as well.
Comment 6 River Tarnell 2007-05-21 18:45:31 UTC
other than the project namespace (Wikiwurdboek), this will affect namespaces on all fy wikis. is that okay?
Comment 7 JeLuF 2007-08-29 20:48:09 UTC
Closed. No response since May.
Comment 8 aliter 2007-10-05 01:54:59 UTC
"Never assume."

No, this is not OK, as: "On the Wiktionary the Category namespaces ought to be Rubryk and Rubryk-oerlis. "Kategory" in Frisian implies a page will appear in one category only. This is mostly correct for Wikipedia and probably for Wikibooks as well, but usage on Wiktionary is different the name should reflect this to avoid confusion."
Comment 9 aliter 2008-05-15 17:49:33 UTC
Oh ***,

If you can't get around to the rest of it, can you at least change Wiktionary to Wikiwurdboek? It's getting tiresum to always have to remember the extra redirect.
Comment 10 Rob Halsell 2009-06-03 14:35:07 UTC
Is there some review and consensus by the project to change these things? Usually there is a discussion on the project and an agreement. Has this occured for this project and there is just no link? Can a link be provided please?
Comment 11 Rob Halsell 2009-06-09 17:28:48 UTC
It has been a week and no links to consensus have been provided. I am going to close this ticket until such information is provided.
Comment 12 aliter 2009-06-17 00:17:05 UTC
If you're asking about:
http://fy.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wikiwurdboek:Buorren/argyf/1#Wikiwurdboek
then that's there.

If your problem is locating the original link, that's because that has moved into archive as well by now. It's two seksjes above the other one.

If you're asking about the complaint about Hulp: on Wikipedia:
http://fy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meidogger_oerlis:Aliter#Ingelske_wurden

The original complaint on fy:w: about the spelling of the Oerlis-pages I can't locate at the moment. The related issue of the general "Oerlis side", named to mimick the talk pages, is mentioned here:
http://fy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meidogger_oerlis:Aliter#Bot
By now it has indeed been resolved as:
http://fy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedy:Oerlisside
Comment 13 aliter 2009-07-03 17:50:06 UTC
Hi,

On fy:w: also (<http://fy.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedy:Oerlisside#Oerlis>), changing the namespaces is favoured:

 3 Meidogger-oerlis
 5 Wikipedy-oerlis
 7 Ofbyld-oerlis / Triem-oerlis
 9 MediaWiki-oerlis
11 Berjocht-oerlis
12 Help
13 Help-oerlis
15 Kategory-oerlis

; provided this can be done without losing existing links. (Except that File: doesn't seem to have a translation Triem: as yet. Holds for Wikiwurdboek and Wikiboeken as well.)
Comment 14 Roan Kattouw 2009-12-12 14:34:17 UTC
De oersetting fan kernnammeromten (0-15) bart op translatewiki.net en jildt foar alle Frysktalige wiki's. Wy kinne hjir allinnich nije nammeromten (100 en heger) tafoegje en harren nammen feroarje.

Translations of core namespaces (0-15) happens at translatewiki.net and applies to all Frisian wikis. Over here, we can only add new namespaces (100 and higher) and change their names.
Comment 15 aliter 2010-01-20 18:36:35 UTC
Yes, claiming this is resolved is quite invalid, indeed.

Even if we were to assume that the ability to change the wikimedia wikis had been moved to a non-wikimedia wiki, how does that solve the problem? This request was posted here when you had us post such requests here. Its content may not be your concern (obviously, you don't consider it so), but it's location is. If you change your rules, it's not us who have to make sure the requests in your database remain valid.

I wasn't aware that it used to be this way, this bug was filed about a year before I got involved with MediaWiki.

Fact remains, this bug is not /currently/ in Bugzilla's scope, even though it used to be. It's actually become /easier/ now: some folks have created a place where you can go and make this change /yourself/ instead of requesting that we do it and pray we don't ignore you. You can go to translatewiki.net, create an account, apply for translator rights (these are usually granted quite quickly) and make the change.

Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
