We use categories to specify domain for different usages of a word.
We encounter that a page can't be assigned to more than 5 categories at once:
some categories are not displayed in the list of categories. Is it a
feature-by-design with some reasons behind, or rather a bug?

Please provide examples. This is not intended behaviour.

I cannot reproduce this; seems to work ok at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Sandbox/Category_test
