http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Mantra&diff=6265662&oldid=6265622 Occasionally, clicking "show preview" may delete large sections of an article without producing an edit summary. This is "fixed" when the edits are saved, but is clearly not atomic.
Possibly related to bug 649.
I don't see this related to bug 649. A preview doesn't call merge function. Actually, it doesn't even save the text. Can anyone reproduce this behaviour?
Why should a preview produce an edit summary? >This is "fixed" when the edits are saved, but is clearly not atomic. What is meant by this? Do you mean to say that clicking the preview button will save the edit?

Do you mean to say that clicking the preview button will > save the edit? Yes, on rare occasions. The history will contain a number of partial edits when "save page" is clicked.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Mantra&diff=6265662&oldid=6265622 shows that the last part of the article was lost, which is consistent with bug 1458. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 1458 ***
