Just an idea after looking at Gerrit change #103894:

Maybe it is possible to minify svgs on the fly due the resourceloader to avoid removing of comments and newlines, which makes the svg hard to read or the diffs if something changes there.

I'm repurposing this as minifying SVGs that are served as separate requests (data URIs are already tracked as bug 63491).
