At Czech Wikipedia we recommend to leave images in the "thumb" = default resolution as other devices or other users, might have different resolution set. Its said, if it is a default it not cause problems. Thus there is a value "thumb" in wikicode. 

So if VE offers to change image resolution freely, it may cause problems. But I dont know, you are IT specialists. On the other side if youll, tent to leave this feature in VE it would be nice to have an easy way to inesrt default "thumb"like resolution to such object.

Those are the hypothetical problems. But default tool to switch back to "thumb" resolution would be nice than.
