Description Amgine 2006-03-14 03:48:21 UTC
Recent changes to the RC bot output have removed urls from special/log events.
For those monitoring the raw output this has severely harmed their ability to
respond to events such as vandal acount creation, page moves, and image uploads.

These changes have also broken a range of other bots and tools which relied on
the previous bot report output.

Please at least restore the urls.

Hmm... it sems you're right, but I could have sworn this was fixed (I must have confused the Freenode bots' output with the rc bot output). Is it still needed still though? Bots codes have been changed and new ones developed to work this way. If we change it now, won't it break more bots than it will fix? The most active anti-vandalism bot would definitely be broken.
Comment 4 Amgine 2007-09-18 20:15:28 UTC
It is still needed if you wish to support human monitoring of bot output. Most likely you don't care if anyone wishes to volunteer to help this way, in which case it doesn't matter for you.

It is far easier to modify a bot to work with urls than it is to instruct all possible volunteers to work without them.

Where are the URLs supposed to point? As well, I assume the automated monitoring tools have since been updated?

If you want to monitor the IRC RC feeds manually, get a script for your IRC client that converts wikilinks into URLs; there are several around.

Suggest closing this as WONTFIX. I'm unaware of any problem this actually causes.
