I'd herewith like to support a request for enhancement found on the mailinglist
as of December 2003. Currently telnet://...-URLs are not highlighted (clickable)
as are ftp/http/https-URLs. Would it be possible to maybe add telnet:// ssh://
sip:// and maybe other commonly used URLs that you can think of?

You can customise the external URL protocols with $wgUrlProtocols in
LocalSettings.php; see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:%24wgUrlProtocols for
more information.

The quoted protocols wouldn't be enabled on most wikis except for special cases.
In said cases, the configuration variable used above can be altered to allow for
it. I see no convincing reason to include them in the default set.

Okay then. I didn't see a point in not adding commonly used protocols - but I
agree they are not that broadly used.
