MediaWiki 1.18 and higher include the ParserFunctions extension in their tarball. But they don't enable it by default. Please enable it by default.
What if some people don't want it?
Also, for new installs, doesn't the installer offer you to enable extensions that are already included in the extensions folder?
Sam, thank you for your comments. You've inspired me to clarify my original feature request. Dear all: The installer should check the "I want ParserFunctions" checkbox by default. If someone doesn't want the extension, they can uncheck the checkbox.
(In reply to comment #3) > The installer should check the "I want ParserFunctions" checkbox by default. Any good reasons to change the current default of not enabling it?
(In reply to comment #4) > Any good reasons to change the current default of not enabling it? 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_extension#Parser_functions says it's one of the most popular extensions. 2. I seem to recall reading (I don't remember where) that users tend to expect it to be enabled, and that a huge number of MediaWiki admins end up enabling it in the end. 3. Any good reasons not to enable it by default? :)
FYI, https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Suggestions_for_extensions_to_be_integrated is the page where discussion should happen if you wanted them to be merged to core (which doesn't seem to be the case though).
