It creates a trail of bread crumbs, which includes the article itself at the end. This article name is also linked (to itself) and is an active link. This link (to the same article) should be made inactive.

This is visible on every GeoCrumb trail. The last "crumb" is a blue link to the page already being viewed; it's clickable, but selecting it does nothing useful.
