The Swiss ch-portal at http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal/ needs to be updated urgently. We (als.wikipedia) have been trying to find someone who can do so for months already! You can copy the new html file from there easily: http://als. wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:CH- Portal&action=raw&ctype=text/css 'Attention': Do not copy and paste the tags <pre> and </pre> at the top and the bottom ;-) If you want to check the voting about that: http://de. wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Diskussion: WikiProjekt_Schweiz#Auf_ch-portal_fehlt_Schweizerdeutsch. 2FAlemannisch Hopefully and with best regards, als:user:Melancholie
Created attachment 1186 [details] Do not use this version! Attachment that should be used instead of the given link (due to a cache problem of the link)
File are on zwinger:/home/wikipedia/htdocs/wikimedia/ch-portal/ Maybe they should be made available through meta: just like www.wikipedia.org ?
Yes, this could be a good idea. What is important for me is, that the ch-portal (and the other portals) can be changed and updated by new languages for example within at least some days (if a sysop should be necessary). But we of the alemannic Wikipedia are trying and waiting for a update for many months now! Otherwise there should be a point of reference, where someone can ask for those changes. Currently nobody seems to feel responsible for doing so. With best regards, als:user:Melancholie
And asking in the Wikimedia IRC channel or on the mailing list hasn't worked?
(In reply to comment #4) > And asking in the Wikimedia IRC channel or on the mailing list hasn't worked? When we asked on the mailing list, the person we thought responsible replied that it's nice to ask him but that he isn't responsible; we should write to the German Wikimedia. When you do that, they say that they have forwarded the request, nothing happens, you write again, and get an angry response saying that that's all they can do.
Where do these portals come from? :P Under what circumstances would anyone come across it? Where is it shown?
This file appears to contain a web bug (offsite tracker), which endangers the privacy of visitors to this page. Will not add.
(In reply to comment #7) > Will not add. Quite the same tracker is used in the nl- portal, so why not in the ch-portal? Where is the problem of using an external web counter? Questions: If you type in "www.wikipedia.ch" you are redirected to that portal!
BTW: also if you type in "www.wikipedia.li"
I quote Avar, "looks like these trackers need to be killed." If on Wikimedia servers, then I agree wholeheartedly; and if not, then the affiliation needs to disappear. We don't LIKE those sorts of things.
"Privacy of visitors": But then you must not use http://wikimedia.org/stats/de. wiktionary.org and http://www2.knams. wikimedia.org, too! Where is the difference? Why not use an external one (there is stored the same data, only)?
(In reply to comment #8) > (In reply to comment #7) > > Will not add. > > Quite the same tracker is used in the nl- > portal, so why not in the ch-portal? Where > is the problem of using an external web > counter? The tracker was also used in the be portal and has now been removed from be and nl. The problem with is is loading offsite Javascript.
The unauthorized third-party trackers have been removed from the nl and be portals; thanks for letting us know about them. A third-party tracker reveals the network address, browser information, time, and potentially other sensitive information to a third party who we don't know and don't have any agreement with about the handling of personally-identifiable information. Further, this tracks passive page views, not active edits by consenting contributors.
Comment on attachment 1186 [details] Do not use this version! false one
Created attachment 1197 [details] The new ch-portal (bug free ;-) this one is ok!
Old attachment: I didn't consider the problems of an external web counter, sorry for this! I hope I did not annoy you with this, it was just well-meant. --- Best regards, Melancholie
Thanks. It still seems to be broken though; it's missing the background and logo, and the GFDL logo link seems to go to a 404 page.
No, when uploaded to the server (where the current file is) it will work (see file locations of the images)! --- Best regards, Melancholie
Oops, yes the GNU-fdl does not work since today! I will correct this too, of course. Sorry again, but it did work yesterday! --- Best regards, Melancholie
Created attachment 1198 [details] With Fixed image (using Commons)
Well, I did try it on the server, and there's background or central Wikipedia logo. http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal/index.html vs http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal/index.new.html
Created attachment 1199 [details] New one with fixed css (bypassing cache effect)
Oh my god, I cannot say 'sorry' enough times. This last problem was caused by the cache effect of the css file. So it would have worked in some hours; unacceptable, yes. But now it works (due to a direct link to the files, not just 'headbg.png') --- Best regards, your time-waster Melancholie ; -)
Ok, that one seems to work. :) Applied file to server.
Created attachment 1319 [details] Bugfix (&ctype); minor tweaks
1. Bugfix for Gecko; see above 2. BTW: Why does http://www.wikipedia.ch/ redirect to http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal// (with double "//" at the end)? It should redirect to http://www.wikimedia. org/ch-portal/ instead, I think (more neatly).

Created attachment 1320 [details] Same bugfix; further tweaks (ch->de)
Changing severity to "major", because the current html on the server looks 'pretty' ugly when using Firefox (FF doesn't fetch css/js)!
Uploaded updates from attachment 1320 [details]. Confirmed problem with Firefox (mime types were wrong)
Created attachment 1330 [details] Added a link to Wikimedia-CH; minor improvements
1. Please upload new html file; see #31 2. BTW: Why does http://www.wikipedia.ch/ redirect to http://www.wikimedia.org/ch-portal// (with double "//" at the end)? It should redirect to http://www.wikimedia. org/ch-portal/ instead, I think (more neatly)
Created attachment 1338 [details] W3C validated version of #1330 Please have a look on comment #32, too.
Updated file. I'm not sure what's up with the redirect oddity; it might or might not be an artifact of the redirect being indirected; I've adjusted it to look more like the wikipedia.nl redirect, which doesn't suffer from this, but I'm not 100% sure it works. (May be cache issues too.)
Some changed the swiss portal back to a totally obsolete version, without writing why! He/she didn't contact the current central point of reference: [[als:Wikipedia:CH-Portal]] This address is given by a html comment at the top. As long as the person who did this doesn't contact anybody, it would be nice if someone could change the portal back to the attachment with the ID 1338. Can you see who that was? If yes, could you ask him why he/she did this?
Please don't make wild claims about evil people. We're currently limping along on an old copy of various site files while recovering servers.
Oh, sorry! But I could not know that. To understand my first assumption, you have to know, that it took us many many weeks until the als.Wikipedia got accepted for beeing shown in this portal and months until it finally was implemented. I feel sorry, but I really didn't know that the recovering of servers could be the reason. With best regards, [[als:Melancholie]]
...we're all vicious vindictive bastards who sit around waiting to mark bugs WONTFIX and reverting people's changes whenever we can.
Ah, that explains a lot ;-) By way of conversation: The "//" disfigurement was still there during the last weeks; see comment #32
