Description jeblad 2012-11-21 14:27:06 UTC
There are a few metalanguages (name for languages that isn't a real written language) and they need special handling. The same is also the case with a few aliases for other languages.

For example the code "no" (Norwegian) is both "nn" (nynorsk) and "nb" (bokmål) but is not a written language in itself. Often (esp on Wikipedia) it is interpreted as "nb".

I'm not sure how we shall handle it, it will probably lead to a lot of confusion if we try to maintain the metalanguages as independent languages.

There are also some language codes that are only aliases for other codes. The code "no" is often used as an alias for "nb.
