Description Daniel Kinzler 2012-11-16 10:55:49 UTC
Anonymous users should be able to pick their language on wikidata.org. Since this also controls the language the user views and edits content in, this is an essential part of wikidata's functionality.

As discussed in bug 41451, this is not trivial to implement because of the way the web caches (squids) work. A solution is proposed in bug 42159, but since this also requires configuration changes (for the wiki, and possibly also for squids), this here ticket was created to track the issue.

This is nothing that could be solved by ops - removing keyword.

Now that bug 42159 is fixed, what needs to be done? Shell?

Magic, rather. Nobody knows what needs to be done, AFAIK.

It is possible for an anonymous user to select the language from the Sidebar on wikidata.org. Closing that bug.

Maybe there should be bugs opened for ULS, as it does not behave as expected in that case.

Note: that's a user hack imported from Commons, not a proper solution.

So, if we want to allow anonymous users to choose the interface language on Portuguese Wikipedia (e.g. to change from pt to pt-BR), is that possible right now?

What configuration change should we request?

No.

None. You can import the ugly gadget from Commons.

No and this is not what this bug is about.
