Description Sam Reed (reedy) 2012-11-10 16:12:32 UTC
DNS and loadbalancers need setting up for mobile - this is for the public

Logged as https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=3899

MobileFrontend is explicitly disabled for both currently as the mobile view links at the bottom of the page point people to places that don't work - so are somewhat pointless

It looks like the .m domains have been set up for wikivoyage (that is, en.m.wikivoyage.org works).

I recommend enabling MobileFrontend for wikivoyage (without enabling automatic redirection) for a sanity check and to make any further changes/configurations necessary (eg setting up the mobile main page). Once satisfied things are working correctly, add wikivoyage to the regex in redirector.conf[1] to enable automatic mobile redirection.

MaxSem just deployed this change https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/34220 reenabling MF on wikivoyage, and it appears to work just fine.

All that should be left now is getting the language projects to configure the mobile version of their main page, and enabling the automatic redirection for mobile devices.

Redirection is enabled for Wiikivoyage so at this point this bug is just about Wikidata, which I'm guessing will still need a fair bit of work to support mobile well - so perhaps that should be handled in a separate tracking bug?
Comment 5 denny vrandecic 2012-12-13 11:56:08 UTC
Wikidata actually works quite well on the smartphones and tablets we have tested it. It is not really mobile-friendly though. We will post a tracking bug for a good mobile Wikidata experience, but we probably won't cover it within the first development year.

Here's the tracking bug: #43065

I guess we can then close this one?

Confirming that Wikivoyage offers mobile frontend in mobile devices by default.

Yes. Resolved as FIXED, although not by me.

Wikidata continues at bug 43065.
