Description Nemo 2012-10-26 20:28:48 UTC
We're recently experiencing a big increase in errors and suspensions of the Microsoft translation memory.

rakkaus log random stats for August, September and October (not reliable): "Unknown error" 92, 141, 370; service suspended 8, 17, 203. It happens several times per day since October 6.

I don't know if we're using a key (the monthly character limit for free accounts is only 2 millions <https://datamarket.azure.com/dataset/1899a118-d202-492c-aa16-ba21c33c06cb> ) but I doubt that can be the problem as August had about three times more translations than September or October.
There don't seem to be big news about the service except a new commercial brother service three months ago <https://blogs.msdn.com/b/translation/archive/2012/07/11/announcing-the-microsoft-translator-hub-for-commercial-use.aspx> and a capacity expansion last year <https://blogs.msdn.com/b/translation/archive/2011/10/18/top-sites-going-global-with-translator-api.aspx>

Note to bug triagers: this doesn't affect WMF. However, since it is the only MT service on translatewiki.net until Yandex support is merged, it is unfortunate if it stops working for long periods of time.

See Gerrit change #29534.)

Gerrit change #30350 added some profiling.

-rakkaus:#mediawiki-i18n- [30-Dec-2012 23:01:48 UTC] Translation service Microsoft (was) restored

No more errors since then. Maybe because after the translation rally ended we have way less translations and therefore less requests?
Should this be closed WORKSFORME?

That was enabled some time ago, I've also updated [[translatewiki:Technology]] now.
Comment 4 Niklas Laxström 2013-03-12 09:50:54 UTC
Less than one error per day, suspensions triggers about once a month. Not actively debugging this now.
Comment 5 Nemo 2014-10-09 08:53:23 UTC
We're now getting useful errors \o/

I just made a new API key with my translatewiki.net address; I'm emailing it to Niklas, Siebrand and Reedy.
