Description Bartosz Dziewoński 2012-06-07 19:36:14 UTC
When an error occurs during upload of the file, but not during the page creation, you get a page in File: namespace and no file uploaded.

I was trying to upload 2 files at once[1][2] ang got no errors during any phase. When I clicked the final Submit button, both pages were created, but only one file got uploaded. An error was displayed and I could click the retry button, but it then displayed an error that the page already exists.

I was able to resubmit the file using the old form.

This is a very strange story, Bartosz! I thank you for it, but I have a few questions:

1. What were the errors? I'm not sure what would cause an error in one step but not the other; any errors I get about the file (e.g., duplicate, duplicate-archive) prevent the page from being created, since it's only created after the call to the API action=upload. Any help you can give in reproducing this issue would be helpful.

2. Are you sure the file upload failed? It looks like one of the files has two versions, both pretty similar, and that no change occurred in the text of the page after the second upload. Maybe there was just a mistake in the transport? Again, I'd need to know the exact error (see above) to diagnose this.

3. Are there any other things you did on the UW form that somehow deviated from the normal operation of it? Usually it's upload, copyright statement (CC-BY-SA choice is default), add a reasonable description (not too long, not too short), and submit. If you added categories, or used the latitude/longitude system, that might be causing something to break on the server, somehow.

Thanks in advance for your help with this! We're really trying to hammer out these little kinks, I'm hopeful we can get it ironed out soon.

1. I'm sorry, I didn't save them :( I am using Opera 11.64 on Windows XP.

2. There was definitely no image visible on the page until I reuploaded, and I think it was saying that no such file exists. I was having some little connection problems then, the bug (?) might have been causes by that.

3. I added categories, and I was uploading two files at once. Nothing else, I think.

Sorry for my elementary bug reporting mistakes. I guess not much can be done now. I'll post here if I run into this issue again, and this time I'll do it properly :)

It's perfectly fine! I'll keep an eye out too, and even if we're getting errors because of network troubles, we should probably do a better job of reporting or handling them.

We'll await further details, unless someone else sees the problem. Thanks very much for your report!

This is most likely a dupe of 15430
