Created attachment 10643 [details] Thumbnail creation failed upload using the Upload wizard on http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard fails to get thumbnails after upload is completed See attachment
Note that the thumbnail for video (specifically ogv) is not working. For images (specifically JPG), thumbnail after upload works.
We should confirm ffmpeg is installed after the new commons labs instance refresh / reinstall.

Marking as new.
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/16777/ fixes thumbnails of videos during upload by extracting them on the client.
Using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Folgers.ogv on http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard (MediaWiki 1.21alpha) I don't get a "broken image" icon anymore when uploading this OGV file, but instead the preview is just black. Also see bug 28810.
Andre, what browser/version did you test this with? Images should be extracted on the client now if possible. Some files have seeking issues and result in a black frame.
Jan: Firefox 15.0.1 or 16.0.1 (updated yesterday but cannot remember when exactly) on Fedora 16.
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/29560/ should fix the issues with black frames.
Tried again the steps in comment 7 (Uploading ogv file to http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard ) and I see a thumbnail already while still uploading, so for me this is FIXED. Tauhida: Could you also verify that the problem is fixed, and reopen this bug report in case that you can still reproduce this? Asking as the fix should have been deployed to *Commons* on October 31st according to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.21/Roadmap and http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2012-October/064118.html . As written before, it works for me on beta.wmflabs.org.
