This makes it extremely hard to restore original signatures after spam attack.

Good catch, that bug was very unclear... The non-duped part of it is not useful, this on the other hand is an actual bug because it makes vandalism out of control: translatewiki.net had to disable thread editing completely for unprivileged users because of it, AFAICS.

Hm, the signature change is logged but it still didn't work very well here: https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Thread:Project:Current_issues/Flow_is_down%3F&lqt_method=thread_history

I wonder if we should add this log to user contributions so that patrollers see the changes when they check a user (bug 22711?):

Or they could at least be added in the table at the top of &lqt_method=thread_history , is there a bug for that?
