If you go to the user list at * http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Listusers&limit=100&offset=124500 and click on any of the following usernames: mysql> SELECT user_id,user_name FROM user WHERE user_name LIKE "Exclamation mark %"; +---------+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | user_id | user_name | +---------+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 152544 | Exclamation mark ! | | 311041 | Exclamation mark ! ! | | 406881 | Exclamation mark ! ! ! I believe those entries may be duplicates or misplaced entries for accounts that actually start with the string "! !" in place of "Exclamation mark".
They appear to have double spaces in the names; title normalization will always tuck the two to one, so you won't get a match back.

Oops, here's the cooked URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Something_odd:_contributions_by_non-existent_user.2C_database_inconsistency.3F.3F
