From iOS feedback apge * Formatting of the reference section into two columns is inappropriate for the size of the iPhone screen. The result is 1-3 words per line and excessive wasted space between the columns. On pages that use the template {{Reflist|2}}, it should be suppressed back down to one column. Example: [[w:en:Cepheid variable]] [[User:Bhartshorne|Bhartshorne]] 23:35, 6 January 2012 (UTC) While this issue is being reported against iOS it easily applies to all phones
New reference design is now live on mw.org http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mobile_design/Reference_reveal
Less relevant now as in the beta there is less emphasis on this section (we could even remove the section in its entirety for enhanced pages) but this is also down to inline styles -webkit-column-count: 2; and column-count: 2 on the div with classes reflist references-column-count references-column-count-2 see bug 35704
