Description Gianluigi Gamba 2005-08-24 12:15:38 UTC
Dealing with chemistry for it.wiki, I'd really appreciate to have the extension
of LaTeX for chemical formulae (called XymTeX, tag <chem>) active on wikipedia.

That would help in creating a common standard for drawing formulae and would
avoid to upload image files.

Thank you.

Is there any reason, that this feature has not yet been added? Three years have passed and the request is still open.

I strongly support this request for XyMTeX and the <chem> tag to be active in wikipedia.

I have seen the WikiTeX link! But it tells that chemistry has been included on WikiTeX. This is also true for e.g. wikisophia, where <chem> tags are actually working. But it is not true for wikipedia where the same constructs are not translated into structures. This inclusion is heartfully desired.

There is also a request to add support for mhchem (bug 5856) which is probably a much better idea.

I don't think the WikiTeX extension is ready for deployment, so I'm removing the shell keyword.

Also, this is a configuration request - the extension already exists.

WikiTex' ChangeLog ends in 2007 and the TODO file is from 2009. Unmaintained extensions will not be deployed on WMF wikis and bug 5856 is the way to go.
This can be re-examined once WikiTex is maintained again, but closing as WONTFIX for the time being.
