Description Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 2005-07-29 11:07:23 UTC
Somebody changed the MediaZilla interface, some drawbacks of this:

* The paramaters are duplicated on each page, read only at the top and
read/write at the bottom, once is enough.
* The paramater editing box is no longer at the top, this makes quick editing of
bugs take longer as one has to scroll down to get to frequently used things such
as "View bug activity"
* There is no longer a reply option for each comment

Solution:
* Change it back to how it was.

Yes, I think in general I preferred it how it was, too, although I can see the
idea behind having a kind of quick summary at the top.

i don't think it is. the old interface is extremely confusing. i like being able
to actually see what a bug's status is without wasting 5 minutes examining the
form :)

possibly. i still don't like how the edit form is done. a better suggestion (other
than "change it back") would be welcome :).

yes there is.

Then add a short line at the very top stating the current status. Everything else
is clearly laid out in the table. I don't see the need for such drastic changes
just to make one little fix.

In the event that the current layout stays, it should really be cleaned up some.
But that belongs in another bug.

I like about the new layout that I actually can read what the bug is about
without scrolling.

Steps:
1) Scroll down to the descriptions
2) Read them from top to bottom
3) Scroll back to the very top.

For me, the new layout is much better.

OK, fair dos; here are some more constructive comments on how to "re-improve"
the interface:

* the attachments table was clearer when it was visibly a table; the bulletted
list looks kind of messy because the patch names have different lengths(In reply
to comment #0)
* perhaps a link at the top to an anchor above the "edit parameters" section
would be easier than scrolling down, but that's very marginal
* um, was the summary at the top always that small?
[yeah, so I guess I can't think of many right now...]

There also seems to be something odd with the add comment box (under mozilla
1.7) where it sometimes jumps about resizing itself when you submit the form.
Not sure what's causing it, and it's not a big deal, but I don't remember it
happening under the older skin.

Well apparently we're too damn lazy to change it. Closing WONTFIX.
