Description Vaibhav Jain 2011-07-12 12:02:14 UTC
Please enable Extension:Admin Links on Hindi Wikipedia. The local consensus is here:
http://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/विकिपीडिया:New_Extension
Comment 1 p858snake 2011-07-12 12:08:30 UTC
Please explain how this would even be remotely usable on hindi wiki?
Comment 2 Vaibhav Jain 2011-07-12 12:10:22 UTC
The community has already discussed that, Bugzilla is not the place for this discussion.
Comment 3 Chad H. 2011-07-12 13:55:33 UTC
Actually it's a perfectly legitimate question. Nobody's asking you to rehash the whole debate, just to explain why you guys want it.

...especially because extensions don't just get enabled because a Wikimedia project decides that it sounds cool. The sysadmins still have the final say. If something looks like it serves no purpose, or has too many other concerns, they just won't enable it.
Comment 5 Mayur 2011-07-12 14:02:03 UTC
We do agree, if there is security concern, you can close this bug.
@p858snake, this extension shall be useful for many hi wiki admin who are not well aware of scripts or admin utilities. That why we go for that.

'Local consensus' link leads to nonexistent page.

No reference to the extension being discussed, but I assume it's http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Admin_Links

It sounds to me like some of those bits should probably go into core, or else be fleshed out and made really nice... probably could use an overall review & refresh.

If it really is useful, it should probably be generally on rather than hi-specific. Not super-high priority as it only adds links to existing things, but should at least be looked over and used for inspiration.

Sorry, vibhi gave you wrong link, exact link is http://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%BE:New_Extensions.

I am quiet certain you don't know how things works. This is the correct place for this discussion, linking to a page on a wiki where the only two people commenting are the ones requesting these extensions. Turning these extension on an almost dormant wiki so you two can play around with doesn't sound like a priority for the projects or sysadmins. As an Indian community member, I am strongly against dedicating any resources so these two can play around with some extensions.

@Theo, please mind you language, plz see the consensus link not two but whole very active hi wiki community members have supported it.Please mind your language.
@Bugzilla sysadmins, Plz try to make decorum here by avoiding such comments of this user theo1001 as this user has already wasted a lot of time us.

No, I'd rather not. this is how I talk and feel about your request, I will not censor myself to make you feel comfortable, these requests have been getting more and more frequent. Instead of doing any content based work, vibhi is much more pre-occupied with x-wiki requests and extensions that are new even for even en.wp. Ignore me if you find my decorum offensive, I find yours blind-devotion to a 13 year old's opinion saddening.
Comment 11 Chad H. 2011-07-15 12:03:08 UTC
While this IS the correct place to discuss the merits of an extension and whether or not it should be installed, it IS NOT the place for your personal attacks on one another. Please take those back to hiwiki as they are not welcome here on BZ.
Comment 12 Theo 2011-07-15 18:37:08 UTC
I am sorry for getting personal, but regardless of my feelings about this, this is not a worthwhile use of the resources. There is no merit or reasoning for devoting time to these extensions on the requested wiki. Mark pointed out in the request page that most of the requested extension need to be reviewed first, there's a couple that are rejected. I apologize for getting personal before, but there are far more important things that need attention from sysadmins before this.
Comment 13 Mayur 2011-07-15 18:45:01 UTC
@Theo, Every wiki has its on policy and need accordingly. We cann't compare english wiki requirement with french or Hindi language Wikipedia. For your kind information this extention got 7 supports with no oppose. All are very active in Hindi Wiki.
Comment 14 Hydriz Scholz 2011-07-17 13:00:28 UTC
From what I see in the documentation page of this extension, I don't think it is rather useful, given that [[Special:SpecialPages]] is available and local administrators would be able to see what they can do in bold.

yeah thats what we want, we have already seen this at http://hi.bharatdiscovery.org/india/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%B7:SpecialPages, there is no harm to enable it if there is no security concern.
Comment 16 Nemo 2013-04-04 22:18:29 UTC
hi.wiki consensus of 2011 is outdated anyway, and proved unreliable: most of
that page was cancelled by more recent consensus.

Please reopen or file again if you can address all the comments above, thanks.
