Description Ian Baker 2011-07-07 23:35:37 UTC
1. Choose an image file to upload. A preview is generated in-browser.
2. Click the filename, and choose a different file.

Result: the preview stays the same, although the displayed filename changes.
Expected: the preview changes to a thumbnail of the newly chosen file.

Oh, wait, ignore me. This is a totally different, UW-specific bug.

I spent some time on this today, and while testing, realized that this feature doesn't actually make sense.

Now that the "remove" link works, I think the obvious UI for uploading a different file is to click remove, then click the button to add a new file. If you could replace the file later, after adding descriptive text, I could see wanting to support it to preserve the form input, but this is in the very first step.

I can't actually imagine anyone expecting that a click on the filename will replace the file. A few users might stumble across it by accident, but I think it'll mostly just be confusing when people click by mistake. Personally, I'd expect clicking a file to view it larger, since that's what happens most other places.

So, new proposal: don't fix this bug, and remove the link to re-select the file instead.
