please see this http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/languages/messages/MessagesHi.php?revision=21191&view=markup&pathrev=21192 we want to retranslate our digit system to international digits, Community Discussion can be found here at this link-http://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B5%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%95%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AA%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%A1%E0%A4%BF%E0%A4%AF%E0%A4%BE:%E0%A4%9A%E0%A5%8C%E0%A4%AA%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%B2#.E0.A4.85.E0.A4.82.E0.A4.95_.E0.A4.B8.E0.A4.AE.E0.A5.8D.E0.A4.AC.E0.A4.A8.E0.A5.8D.E0.A4.A7.E0.A5.80_.E0.A4.9A.E0.A4.B0.E0.A5.8D.E0.A4.9A.E0.A4.BE Every user want the implementaion of international Digits, Thanks in Advance Mayur
To clarify: this is requesting the removal of localized Hindi digits from the Hindi localization. All wikis everywhere with language set to Hindi will show numbers formatted using western/ASCII style 0123456789 digits, instead of showing numbers formatted using Hindi style digits ०१२३४५६७८९. Questions: * Has this been discussed in the context of changing the universal localization files for all MediaWiki wikis in Hindi, not just hi.wikipedia.org? * Is there wide general support, or have only a few people on one site commented? * What about other Indic languages?
I want to clear that nearly all indic languagges are using international digit, only hindi was using devnagri digits, This create a lots of problem using templates, bcoz mediawiki interface doesn't recognise hindi digits. Nearly all community member are in favour of this. No one has opposed this trasformation. Regards
In reply to Questions *It was disscussed for universal mediawiki localisations for ALL HINDI WIKI PROJECTS BUT SPECIALLY FOR HINDI WIKIPEDIA *YEAH. WHOLE COMMUNITY HAVE SUPPORTED IT, NO ONE IN THIS DISCUSSION HAS OPPSOSED THE INTERNATIONAL DIGIT TRANSFORMATION *OTHER INDIC LANGUAGES ARE USING INTERNATIONAL DIGIT AND HINDI WIKIPEDIA ALSO WANT TO ADOPT THIS. I HOPE THERE WOULD LEFT NO CONFUSION NOW
(In reply to comment #3) > *YEAH. WHOLE COMMUNITY HAVE SUPPORTED IT, NO ONE IN THIS DISCUSSION HAS > OPPSOSED THE INTERNATIONAL DIGIT TRANSFORMATION Could you provide a URL linking to the consensus?

I do see the link for one wiki. And only 6-7 people voting on it. One opposed. I'm not sure, but that doesn't seem like you have consensus given the ActiveUsers page.

Sorry, i didn't get your point. We discussed it on Our village pump. Discusson was open for all.And as said no one opposed it.All six user who gave their vote are very active user of hindi Wikipedia.Other users didn't comment in oppose.Last time when that bug was filed, it got only four support with 3 oppose when this digits were translated to Devanagari digits.Govt of india also use International digits. All hindi Universities all use International digits.SO it become very difficult for a new user to work on hi wikipedia.
Additional note -- while chatting on this issue in our bug triage meeting we remembered there is a setting which can be used to temporarily disable the digit translation. If local consensus is confirmed, we can switch it in (and can switch it off again later if desired) without changing the core localization settings. To disable the digit translation, set $wgTranslateNumerals to false -- there's a section in InitialiseSettings.php for this for the Wikimedia wikis, and a few Arabic and Indic wikis have it disabled already.
(In reply to comment #7) > We discussed it on Our village pump. Discusson was open for all. Right, this is what is needed. Please keep the discussion open -- even publicizing it would be good. > Govt of india also use International digits. All hindi Universities all use > International digits. SO it become very difficult for a new user to work on hi > wikipedia. If arabic/international digit use is becoming widespread, then it would be helpful to show that as it could be used instead of broader consensus. Pointing to policies of the Indian government, or a few Hindi universities would be helpful here. I apologize if this all seems unnecessarily slow, but we want to make sure that we don't introduce big changes without making sure it is the right thing to do.
You can see Indian Constitution hare on this website, http://rajbhasha.nic.in/enconst.htm ,Which clearly states that Article 343 of the Constitution of India: "(1) The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devnagari script. The form of numerals to be used for the official purposes of the Union shall be the international form of Indian numerals.
I have provided the Link of Govt of India Constitution Which clearly states in th Article 343 of the Constitution of India: "(1) The official language of the Union shall be Hindi in Devnagari script. The form of numerals to be used for the official purposes of the Union shall be the international form of Indian numerals. Weblink can be found here-http://rajbhasha.nic.in/enconst.htm Now plz revert Old translation which was done on No consensus previously Thank You and Regards Mayur
