Someone sent mail to me @wikimedia.com and it bounced; it would be better if mail was redirected to the same address @wikipedia.org. I'm sure there are other people who make that msitake and don't know how to correct it when they get a bounceback.
This affects subdomains as well: * http://commons.wikimedia.com/ doesn't work (404 error, wildcard domain) Compare to * http://nl.wikipedia.com/ which does works
You'll need to do more than update MX records in DNS. Google Apps or LDAP will need to support it as well.
We don't own wikimedia.com, and it doesn't use our DNS servers, so we can't change its MX records. According to whois, it belongs to Wikimedia Deutschland.
wikimedia.com is owned by the Foundation: Registrant: Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. [...] Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com) Domain Name: WIKIMEDIA.COM Created on: 19-May-03 Expires on: 19-May-17
Yes, Daniel Kinzler from Wikimedia Deutschland and Rob Halsell from the Wikimedia Foundation were nice enough to work together and get the domain transferred. Thanks for updating the bug.
