BUG MIGRATED FROM SOURCEFORGE http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=962838&group_id=34373&atid=411192 Originally submitted by Piotr Matuszewski (matusz) 2004-05-29 20:00 Toolbar should not default to '''on'''. New users get confused and have trouble getting the mess cleaned-up. If I had fast contact to every new user, I could teach them, but as it is, they just leave the mess be. Frustration from constant cleaning shit from toolbar makes me less friendly towards new users. That hurts wikipedia.
Exactly what "shit" does the toolbar produce that you are considering such a nuisance? Please be more specific. We had longish discussions on the mailing list about whether the toolbar should be on or off by default before it was introduced. I seem to recall that the principal argument for turning it on is that it is meant to be for new users who are unfamiliar with the wiki syntax.
Toolbar is meant for newbies so they can easily format text. They can just click every toolbar button then "preview" to see what each button provide. It's better to fix toolbar tests than syntax tests as they are easier to detect and fixes.
