Description Andre Engels 2005-06-26 08:58:46 UTC
Preferences were not set correctly on the switch from 1.4 to 1.5 on WikiCommons.
I had 'underline links' switched off, but when I got to Commons, it was switched
on. My preference however had not changed: Looking at preferences, the option
was not selected. It was resolved by selecting and then de-selecting it, but it
would be better to solve this automatically.

It seems that the conversion script is overwriting the preferences from 1.4. I
assume that there's a good reason for that, but it should not overwrite (or it
should overwrite and then change back) anything a user has changed to their
preferences from the 1.4 default.

Can you confirm that the preference was in effect, rather than for instance a
stuck style sheet in the browser cache? (That's been a relatively common problem
in general.)
Comment 2 Andre Engels 2005-06-26 09:23:13 UTC
A stuck stylesheet seems very unlikely, because I was kept logged in, so for a
stylesheet problem, the stylesheet must have been stuck not from the last time
but an *earlier* case, in which case I would have noticed it before.

If the link underlining issue was the only preference that was funky, then this
is a remnant of a classic old bug that was fixed within the past few months.

Going to hit this WORKSFORME... underlining weirdness abounded in the last
couple years and it probably wasn't exactly pref-related.
