Due to the way the links work, it's often easier to copy over the file description page, THEN upload. (For instance, where you've set up a nest of links that connect several files.) However, even when the information you type into the description page ''will be instantly lost when the file is uploaded'', the damn idiotic scripts insist that there's a description, a source, and a licence in that information. Made all the more infuriating if you're NOT using the basic upload form, in which case it insists you fill out every box with information that's going to be lost in moments. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fix it. It's enough to send you into a rage when you're trying to do a large batch upload.
Created attachment 6485 [details] Set up information page, tried to upload a file. Note how there's both a box saying "the summary you enter will not appear on the description page" and one insisting that the summary is filled out!
This is due to Commons specific JavaScript (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Upload.js and http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:UploadForm.js). You can disable JavaScript on your browser, then go to Special:Upload and you'll see the "normal" upload form without all that checks. Marking bug as INVALID since this is not a MediaWiki bug.
