Look at the file http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OLS_example_weight_vs_height_scatterplot.svg (the actual file is http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c1/OLS_example_weight_vs_height_scatterplot.svg). It renders normally in browsers Chrome, Mozilla, Safari or IE; however Wikimedia's renderer somehow ignores the actual scale of the image (approximately golden ratio) and forces it to be square, which looks rather ugly.
Assigning SVG bugs to Ariel -- need a cleanup pass to see what's fixed up by a librsvg upgrade, what can be resolved with fixes to our font configuration, what can be fixed on our end, and what still needs to be pushed upstream.
The image does not specify an imagesize in any way, which makes it rather difficult for the parser to make a guess about the dimensions of the image. Feeding this to imagemagick errors out. In rsvg you actually get a png image, but mediawiki does not size images based on information from the scalar. I see no way to fix such situations.
giving svg bugs back to the pool.
This can't be fixed per comment 2.
