Hi, Can the name for Punjabi be changed from "पंजाबी / ਪਜਾਬੀ / پنجابي" to "ਪੰਜਾਬੀ". At the moment it's incorrect and unneccesarily excessive. File: wikipedia/phase3/languages/Names.php Line: 'pa' => Thanks
Created attachment 323 [details] A patch to languages/Names.php (HEAD) to fix the issue. This patch against CVS HEAD fixes the issue.
Just checked that in an HTML document and it seems fine thanks. Now if only I could get someone to tell me what I need to sort out for the Punjab interface (http://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1478)!
For those wondering why there were so many different names there from the beginning of, the diff is here: r1=1.110&r2=1.111">http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/wikipedia/phase3/languages/Language.php?r1=1.110&r2=1.111 I'll vouch for this change although another script (Arab?) is also used here: http://www.omniglot.com/language/names.htm
Well Punjabi can be written in modified Persian script (Shahmukhi) but as of yet nobody has made a single contribution in the script at all. Basically, it's used in Pakistan when writing Punjabi but its use has been discouraged over the last 50 years in favour of Urdu. 99% of Punjabi online is in Gurmukhi. It could be added later if anyone wants to set up a Wikipedia in that script, but I can't see it happening. We certainly don't need the Devanagari version.
Can someone commit this?
Commited to REL1_4 and HEAD. Thanks for the report and patch :o)
This hasn't been properly addressed. The text has been changed to "ਪਜਾਬੀ" which is incorrect. It needs to be "ਪੰਜਾਬੀ". Please notice the 'tippi' after the first character. As it stands the text says "Pajabi". It needs to say "Panjabi" or "Punjabi" (i.e. "ਪੰਜਾਬੀ").
Created attachment 357 [details] The patch against languages/Names.php Pajabi => Punjabi, i.e. "ਪਜਾਬੀ" =>"ਪੰਜਾਬੀ".
Anyone able to commit?
