For clarity: this is not an API bug. The log entries created by Special:Renameuser somehow manage not to fill in anything for log_action and log_type. Does bypass the LogPage interface? Something's clearly broken here.

They seem to have the type and action 'renameuser' on my test wiki. Is it just a few rows or old ones only?

I think this is just the old ones, the log entries Special:Log for the old ones are also formatted differently than the recent ones, all the info is contained in the comment.

I noticed that about some of the early RenameUser log entries as well. I figured it's water under the bridge by now.

Fixed already, I see. Should've looked at the timestamps before reporting this.
