Description Majorly 2007-10-31 22:01:48 UTC
Currently the email form is very very basic. It would be useful if it could be enhanced, perhaps with the regular formatting bar, but also with things like default signature and attachments.

All mail sent from MediaWiki is treated as plain text, rather than HTML, and there are good reasons for this - it's readable in all mail clients, it's considered safer, and it's faster to send and receive and takes up less space.

Allowing users to send files as attachments seems to fall outside the scope of a wiki engine, and presents the usual problems - email worms and the like. Similar objections exist for standard HTML email, to the extent that a large number of mail clients will not show HTML email as-is without the user first confirming that the sender is trusted.

The wiki really isn't meant to act as an e-mail app; user-to-user mail messaging is deliberately minimal.

A system that did want to make it more extensive possibly would want to do this as an extension.
