A file causing the bug in MediaWiki (112.51 KB, application/octet-stream)

Details

Description Adalbert Dawid 2007-05-24 15:09:07 UTC
I'm using a MediaWiki on Debian Etch (in my intranet, only for private access). I added 'pdf' to $wgFileExtensions and keep uploading pdf files, which I link to from the wiki like that:

This works perfestly fine, but not for one file, which is called 3-dim_packing_bearing.pdf. Thus, the link

doesn't work (i.e. stays red) although the file 3-dim_packing_bearing.pdf is uploaded and accessible through the list of uploaded files.

What can be the reason?

Tanks, Adalbert

I cannot confirm this bug using MediaWiki 1.11alpha (r22384). Maybe a bug in MW 1.7.1 and fixed until now?

Now I renamed the file to Test.pdf and uploaded it to my wiki. Still the same problem... So I think the file itself and not its name must be causing the bug.
I'm afraid I cannot upload the file in question as it is under copyright.

A file causing the bug in MediaWiki

Now I found a file that seems not to be copyrighted and that causes the bug described. When I upload that file and link to it via , the link always remains red, although the file has beed uploaded correctly.

I'm attaching the file in question so you can check if it works with a newer/older/the same version of MediaWiki.

Marking this bug as INVALID.

I found out what the problem was. After uploading a file, I usually copied its name by marking a _link_ to that file and then pasted the name into the wiki in order to create a media:-link. What I didn't (and couldn't) see was that there was always some invisible character at the end of the file name (probably due to the fact that I had copied the name from a link) in the copy buffer which I then pasted to the media:-link along with the file name. Although one cannot see the invisible character, it seems to get interperted by mediawiki when it comes to creating a link and thus the link is broken.

I'd suggest not to interprete invisible characters when creating links in the wiki software in order to prevent other people from encountering this pretty tricky bug.

I don't think we're supposed to be interpreting them. Could you open a new bug for that?
